Welcome to the February AU and Plotting Workshop for Phantom Thieves International! This post is intended to help incoming players plot their AU and figure out who their characters are in this setting and where they want to go, as well as for current players to come up with plots and things they want to accomplish with their character. This is completely optional but players are encouraged to use this post to both establish pre-existing CR and goals for their characters, as well as plan ahead.

AU History Blurb: The daughter of a somewhat strict Japanese family, on the surface there is nothing all that remarkable about her. Overly shy and unsure of how to act in most social situations, Kumiko usually prefers to fade into the woodwork rather than place attention on herself. She sees herself as unremarkable and ordinary, so for the most part she does her best to go unnoticed in public.

She lives something of a double life, however, and has managed to gain some popularity as a Virtual YouTuber named AiNA, an aspiring singer and general internet personality. Doing this behind closed doors, it started off innocently enough, until a few fans take things a bit too far, and begin to uncover parts of her personal life.
Tentative Plans for character: As mentioned earlier, she will be coming in as an Operator, with a weaker Persona. She will remain in that slot until she has a full rebellion, which will involve taking on her internet stalker. I won't be doing this for a few months, since she won't have the courage to face this issue for a while.

Pre-Established CR: Kumiko has Yuuri Katsuki for a cousin, and believes that he can do no wrong. HE'S THE BEST OK?

Desired CR: Classmates! She will be in eighth grade, so I know this will probably be a stretch. I'm also open to more family and friends of the family. Possibly fans?? I'm really open.

Game Accomplishments/AU History Blurb: Celeste currently works at the DA's office, and is no stranger to the world of law enforcement. Her father is a well-known and respected county judge, and it's expected that Celeste will follow in his footsteps. However, as she begins to make her way into the world of law, she has seen first hand how corrupt and self-serving the system is, and has decided to fight for a justice that doesn't punish the people who it is supposed to protect the most.

She is just coming off her own rebellion and is still trying to figure out what this means for her. With the veil very aggressively pulled off, she's still trying to find her way.

Plots of Interest: She will be taking a special interest in those wronged by a flawed law system. Other than that, I suspect she will naturally flock to those who she believes may not be able to fight for themselves and attempt to build them up.

CR Hopes: Other than the above, I would love to see her interact with people who know her or know of her through her familial ties, or her current ties as an intern to the district attorney's office. Also maybe someone to get her to open up a little? I'm insanely open.

But yeah Takamichi is still figuring out his own rebellion and he got his own personal reasons to get people having connections with the law on his side (re: missing sister). Of course, they can both try to open up to each other a little bit the more they get to know each other.

Character Name: Naoto Shirogane
Original Canon: Persona 4
AU Role: Infiltrator OR Accomplice
AU Species: Human
AU History Blurb: Naoto Shirogane was once regarded as the "Prince Detective" in her native Japan. Fifth in the line of the Shirogane Clan, she hid her gender from those she worked with in order to be taken seriously as a detective. That changed after she was brought in by the Wakasa police department to help solve a string of baffling serial murders which targeted high school girls in the area.

Naoto, frustrated by the police deciding to pin all of the murders on a copycat, disguised herself as a local highschool girl and made herself into a target. While this lead to the arrest of the serial killer, it outed Naoto as a young woman and permanently smeared her reputation. Her work in the case was swept under the rug, the lead detective before her took credit for the arrest, and she found it difficult to obtain work in Japan due to her age and gender.

Now, she's a senior criminology student at UCLA, hoping that a fresh start in America will get her the respect that she knows she deserves.

Pre-Established CR: Hana Song may be a roommate of hers.
Desired CR: Please, dear god, Naoto needs friends. She's terrible at making them.


I'm not sure if I want Naoto to be an Infiltrator or a Confidant.
Also, due to Naoto's immigration status, she cannot currently work as an private investigator and instead spends her time photographing illegal activity in hopes of giving the police evidence for their cases.

If going Confidant route: This could arguably get her in trouble with local gangs or mobs that would want a girl like her keeping her nose out of their business.

If going Infiltrator route: She could end up blackmailed by one of the criminals she's taken photos of in regards to her immigration status: work for me, or I'll get you deported, etc.

Also, Naoto will be 20 years of age in this AU.

going Confident/Accomplice route could give some potential, Ky's a Vice cop, and could've run into her during his shifts

Either way, I have a feeling they'd run into each other. The reason I'm hesitant about the Accomplice Route is because I'm not sure what she could unlock assets wise other than new missions for the Metaverse or some investigative skills.

So Celeste is a law student at UCLA, which means that they are at the very least on the same part of campus for much of the time. I think it would be easy to have these two cross paths in some way, especially since Celeste currently works as an intern at the DA's office. Whichever route you end up taking with Naoto, these two could be interesting together.

Also Celeste kind of sucks at making friends too so by their powers combined... it will probably still be terrible, but look similar interests, they might be able to figure this whole having a social life outside of work thing out. Maybe.

They should definitely hang out, even if it's something as silly as like, bar trivia or something (is that what the college kids are doing nowadays? I only stayed home playing video games)

AU History Blurb: Takehsi is a member of the high school football team (he's the center), and he is from a family of deeply determined and competitive people. As such, he's constantly subject to a huge amount of peer pressure and family pressure. He's pushed to put everything he has into his ONE PASSION by his family, and he's pushed to be part of the COOL KIDS IN SCHOOL who bully other people by his teammates/the cheerleaders probably. As a result, he kind of acts like a douchebag. He really needs someone to get him to stand up for himself and admit that maybe he doesn't want to boss people around, and maybe he doesn't want to devote his soul to football. Maybe he ACTUALLY wants to stand up to OTHER bullies and indulge in his secret interest in drawing and sketching.

I'm not saying he's not an asshole right now. I'm just saying that with a bit of prodding from other characters, he could grow into someone who is less of an asshole
Pre-Established CR: I want insanely intense people to be AUd as his family. Also people who get bullied by the Alpha Jocks in high school and possibly even by Takeshi himself. People who are also on the Football team or who are fans. Cheerleaders.
Desired CR: People to call him out on being a dick, mainly. Secondary desire: Artists that he can sort of awkwardly try to ask for advice while still trying to keep up his tough guy facade

Hana Song "D.va" | Overwatch

Game Accomplishments/AU History Blurb: You can fine her App here but..

Otherwise Hana is just settling into college, but she's a pretty busy girl. On top of homework and studying, she's also a lead role in a movie and also on an esports team that's scouted her. The movie front is a bit rocky to the point that people are starting to believe she only got the role because her uncle is the producer. There's a log up for her awakening going on right now, but the long and short of it is that her uncle has been using her to piggy back off of her success and overworks her. In the end she's kicked off because of how things at stacked against her, thus going to be the key to her awakening.

Otherwise, I'd like to do more with her esports and all that.
Plots of Interest: I'm honestly up for anything at this point, but I do want to venture more into her esports and movie making shenanigans as time goes on. I also considered the idea of having her be in something like the Overwatch League (with some changes obviously) if it's acceptable, since the actual Overwatch organization doesn't exist in this AU for her.
CR Hopes: Honestly anything goes. She needs more friends and I'd be totally up for a love interest as time goes on, but that can wait until it actually happens rather than it being force. Negative CR is fine too within reason.

Character Name: Takamichi Sanzenin

AU Species: Human
Game Accomplishments/AU History Blurb: Absolutely nothing, I just got into this game ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Anyways, Takamichi's application can be found here, but let's go over some interesting points about him and what's he up to:

● Takamichi is a 25 year old young man from Japan, the son of a wealthy business man and he is an idol in the making with the unit Lancelot
● His older sister is a very successful international fashion designer named Hibari Sanezenin, who went missing during a business trip to LA. Her disappearance is heavily hinted that someone is trying to bring down the Sanezenin family.
● Takamichi awoken his Persona when he got dragged into a Palace after confronting a stranger paying a private investigator bribe money to keep quiet about the family and was saved by an unknown Phantom Thief.
● To avoid putting his family and friends at risk, his idol unit went on hiatus and he move to Los Angeles with some belongings along with a set amount of money for emergencies.
● Right now, he works at a bar near his apartment that is run by an old family friend to "give him something to do" along with doing his work with the Phantom Thieves.

Plots of Interest: I am honestly open to anything and everything as this is a shiny new character in the works here! Takamichi still does not know the Phantom Thief that saved him back in Japan, so that position is very open for a Phantom Thief that somehow took another turn in Mementos and ended up in the Palace of the stranger that almost took Takamichi's life and did a quick rescue mission.

I also would like him to meet with people who know/would know of his sister's international fame and fashion brand so he can bring awareness to those in the Phantom Thief network that she is missing without drawing too much attention overseas. The news of her disappearance is very large in Japan while somewhat quiet in America.

CR Hopes: Takamichi is a shy person at heart, so getting started on making some friends wouldn't hurt so he can feel comfortable. He would mesh well with people around his age, but he would certainly support the younger Phantom Thieves to the best of his ability.

Since he is a growing idol, fans are certainly possible! Lancelot is a group that is known to play jazz and jazz rock related music. They are still getting started in Japan, but currently on hiatus for "personal reasons".

Friends, negative CR, pre-established CR, I am open to many ideas!

Well, Ky and Takamichi are close in age, and while missing persons is not his position, he may try to help once he's aware of the situation, especially if Ky is a regular at said bar.

Sinbad might be interesting on thief-terms, as he's an angry little brat who in the AU is music-inclined, but metal.

I'm totally down with bar regulars as Takamichi would remember faces easily with repeat customers. And once he learns Ky a bit more, he can try to ask him to keep an eye out for anything about his sister.

Metal may not be a top taste for Taka, but hey, him and Sinbad still might work well in the Thief field.
